McFly become latest UK band to head to US
McFly have become the latest in the line of boybands to head across the pond to the US in hope of cracking America.
The boys have revealed plans to follow in the footsteps of One Direction and The Wanted, playing a series of “small shows” for their US fans.
The group hope to record their sixth studio album in June and head to the US in September for a few targeted concerts, Billboard reports.
McFly have never toured America in the seven years they have been together and have released one American album Just My Luck, which coincided with the film of the same name in which they starred with Lindsay Lohan.
Singer Tom Fletcher said: “We have some fans in America that have been fans for like eight or nine years – right from the beginning – so much so that they fly over to see us in the UK.
“It’s amazing that they are so dedicated. So I think we owe it to them to come over.”
McFly – featuring Fletcher, Danny Jones, Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter – have had 17 Top 10 singles and six Top 20 albums in the British charts.
On their current ‘Keep Calm and Play Louder Tour’ in the UK, the band have been previewing new material for their next album – including the track ‘Red’, which has received a strong reaction from the crowd.
