Chelsea through to Champions League final

Chelsea are through to the Champions League final after a remarkable 2-2 draw over the holders Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

The Blues produced one of the greatest escapes in the history of European football by surviving the sending off of John Terry and then coming from behind to win an astonishing semi-final 3-2 on aggregate.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, Barcelona dominated the opening 45 minutes and deservedly took the lead through Sergio Busquets, who tapped home from close range.

Things got a whole lot worse for Chelsea less than two minutes later when Terry received a straight red card in the 37th minute for kneeing Alexis Sanchez from behind. The visitors fell further behind when Andres Iniesta latched onto Lionel Messi’s pass and prodded past Peter Cech two minutes before the break.

However Ramires gave Chelsea a lifeline in first half stoppage time when he ran onto Frank Lampard’s pass and beat Victor Valdes with a superb chip to put his side ahead on away goals.

Chelsea defended in numbers and rode their luck in the second half. Lionel Messi hit the bar with a penalty for Barca in the 59th minute and hit the post late in the game.

Barcelona then had a goal disallowed for offside before substitute Fernando Torres sealed victory with a breakaway goal in the 90th minute.

The downside for Chelsea will be that Terry, Ramires, Branislav Ivanovic and Raul Meireles will be suspended for the final in Munich on May 19th.

In the other semifinal, Real Madrid will try to overturn a 2-1 deficit at home to Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
