Glasgow Warriors boss Sean Lineen relishing Heineken Cup campaign after drawing ‘giants’

GAFFER Sean Lineen last night insisted Glasgow are ready to take on the best in the business after being drawn in a Heineken Cup group with Leinster, Bath and Montpellier.

The Firhill side will be contesting the toughest group possible and coach Lineen believes his players will need to produce giant-killing performances every time they take to the field in the competition next season.

But despite the daunting task of facing newly-crowned Heineken Cup champions Leinster, English superstars Bath and fast-rising French cracks Montpellier, Lineen can’t wait for the action to get under way.

He said: “We are up against three giants of the game – but we want to be playing the best.”

Glasgow’s Test stand-off Ruaridh Jackson grinned: “It is a pretty tidy draw – nice and easy! I can’t wait.”

Edinburgh, meanwhile, will fancy their chances of sneaking into the knockout rounds for the second time.

They’re up against Cardiff Blues, London Irish and Racing Metro of Paris in the “pool of the capitals.”

Coach Michael Bradley said: “This draw presents winnable opportunities. I suspect this group will be very tight and the timing of the matches is going to be so important.

“This is a group Edinburgh could do well in. If we do our work at the start of the season and concentrate on the areas we need to improve on then I believe we can go into the competition with confidence.”
