Little Mix soar to top of the charts with Wings
This time last year, they were four unknown girls but 12 months on, Little Mix have scooped their second number one single in the UK Charts.
After being put together as four individual solo artists on The X Factor, the girlband scored a number one back in December off the back of their show win with a cover of Damien Rice’s Cannonball.
The four-piece band – made up of Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson and Leigh-Anne Pinnock – sold over 107,000 copies of the record in the last week, becoming the fastest-selling single of 2012 by a group.
The excited bunch admitted scoring a number one with their own track meant a lot, saying: “Wooh! Number 1! We want to thank all the Little Mixers who went out and bought the single. You’ve made all our dreams come true.
“It means a lot because obviously we got a number one at Christmas with Cannonball, but that wasn’t our song really, so now that we’ve become number one with our own song that we wrote, we’re so proud, best feeling ever.
“Continue to listen to it and dance away in your bedrooms in your pants!”
Jesy added: “We feel like Wings is our baby that we’ve been waiting to unleash on the world. To have it released and go straight to number one is just incredible.”
Perrie wrote on Little Mix’s Twitter page: “I can’t say thank you enough for getting us to number 1 mixers! I’m so happy!!! Your all so AMAZING! I love you all! Perrie <3 xxx.”
The girls – who are currently supporting fellow X Factor stars JLS on tour – celebrated their number one with a gift of personalised giant cookies from their management.
Their debut album is scheduled for release in November.
