Ryan Moore ends three-year wait to win his second PGA title in Las Vegas

Ryan Moore ended a three-year wait for his second PGA title at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas.

The 30-year-old Las Vegas resident scooped up the trophy and a cheque for $810,000 (£502,000) – at his home city tournament, finishing on 24-under-par 260 following a closing 66.

De Jonge was a shot back after a 67, while Jonas Blixt of Sweden was third on 20-under 264, having rounded off his week with a disappointing 70.

The trio had been front-running throughout the tournament and went off together in the final group for Sunday’s final round.

The 16th hole was key – Moore had a long putt for eagle and sent it to within a foot, sinking the birdie chance to go to the top of the leaderboard on his own, which is where he stayed after making par at 17 and 18.

“It’s been an unbelievable week,” Moore said. “I’ve had such great support with my family and friends out here.”

Moore first tasted victory in August 2009 at the Wyndham Championship, where he beat Kevin Stadler and Jason Bohn in a play-off.

Australian Jason Day was briefly threatening to play himself into contention, completing the front nine in a record-equalling seven-under-par 28 to reach 19 under.

He could not keep up the momentum though, as the thought of breaking 60 entered his mind, and a double-bogey six at the 18th meant a 65 which dropped him into fourth place.
