Elgin City chairman charged over Rangers fiasco

Elgin City chairman Graham Tatters has been charged by the Scottish FA for knowingly overselling tickets for the postponed game against Rangers.

The match had been scheduled for November 25 at Elgin’s home ground, Borough Briggs, but was cancelled by police after around 1,100 tickets above the ground’s 4,520 capacity were sold.

Elgin, who trail Division Three leaders Rangers by two points, were fined £25,000 by the Scottish Football League, but Tatters has also been charged by the SFA.

An SFA statement said Tatters had been found guilty of ‘not acting in the best interests of association football by knowingly distributing tickets for the above match in excess of the maximum capacity of the ground at which the match was scheduled to be played’.

Tatters has until December 12 to respond to the notice of complaint.
