Eminem to headline Glasgow Summer Sessions Festival

Eminem has been confirmed as the headline act for a new Scottish music festival, Glasgow Summer Sessions.

The rapper has teamed up with promoters DF Concerts to become the first act to perform at the city’s Bellahouston Park on Tuesday, August 20.

Eminem plus special guests will play one of several shows to take place over a 10 day period.

DF Concerts CEO Geoff Ellis said the shows would become a regular fixture featuring international superstars as well as homegrown acts.

“For the last few years I have felt that Glasgow needs a music festival, not like T in the Park but a series of concerts.,” Ellis said.

“There will be three to five nights on an annual basis. We are launching Glasgow Summer Sessions which will be an annual event in August.

“There will be pop, rock and dance. The first artist we are announcing is Eminem which is fantastic. He is doing a couple of festival appearances in Europe and we have got him coming to Glasgow.”

In September 2010, 70,000 people celebrated an open air mass with Pope Benedict XVI at Bellahouston Park.

Ellis added: “It is going to take place on the site that the Pope did his mass on. It will be in the same area and side of the park. It is very accessible.”

“We are also talking a great bill around them of people who could headline the SECC and we expect it to sell out very quickly. Other shows are in the pipeline.”

Eminem last wowed Scottish fans when he headlined T in the Park in 2010.
