Dick Van Dyke reportedly suffering from neurological disorder

Dick Van Dyke has cancelled a highly-publicised appearance in New York after reportedly developing a neurological disorder.

Dick was scheduled to attend an event at the 92nd Street Y on April 26 to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award for Bettering Humanity through Comedy, however his representative has now told ET Online that Van Dyke has been advised by his doctors to cancel his scheduled appearance in New York.

“[Dick is being treated from] fatigue and lack of sleep resulting from symptoms of a yet-to-be diagnosed neurological disorder,” Van Dyke’s spokesperson said.

Van Dyke has been urged not to travel because of the illness and will thus be staying close to his California home for the time being.

An avid Twitter user, Dick took to his account to ask his fans for advice about his symptoms.

He wrote on Wednesday: “My head bangs every time I lay down. I’ve had every test come back that I’m perfectly healthy. Anybody got any ideas?”

He also wrote, “It has been going on for seven years. I’ve had every test you can think of (CAT Scan, Mri, Spinal tap etc).”

The actor – who turned 87 in December – has won many awards over the course of his career, including an SAG Lifetime Achievement prize and four Emmys.

Dick is best known for his roles in Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and as the sleuthing Doctor Sloan in Diagnosis Murder.
