The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes faces emergency surgery to save his voice

The Wanted have been thrown into disarray after it was revealed band member Nathan Skyes has been forced to stop singing for the foreseeable future.

The star is having an operation today for a haemorrhaging nodule on his vocal cord – the same thing that threatened British star Adele’s voice.

It could spell disaster for the band – who are well on their way to cracking America – because Nathan is in charge of some lead vocals.

They were meant to be in the studio working on their next album and planning a world tour at the end of the year — but that all now hangs in the balance.

Even if the procedure is successful, he won’t be able to talk for at least a month, let alone sing.

A source said: “It’s not good at all. Nathan has battled with throat issues for a while but this is far more serious.

“After the once-over by the specialist, he was instructed to have almost immediate surgery. Naturally Nathan is really worried as if it doesn’t work, his career is over.

“The rest of the band are not only concerned about him but also about the group.

“It will be tricky to continue without him as vocals will have to be changed. All their worldwide commitments are having to be put on hold.”

Syke had battled with throat issues for a while but after an appointment with a specialist, he was instructed to have almost immediate surgery.

The group’s publicist said in a statement: “We can confirm that The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes will under go specialist throat surgery on Thursday April 18 in Los Angeles and as such will be taking an unforeseen hiatus form The Wanted.

“The priority for Nathan, his label and management is that he is given time to recover and receive the best treatment possible.”

With festival season about to kick off, the five-piece are booked for UK dates over the summer.
