Rocky musical to debut on Broadway

Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky is heading to Broadway as a musical.

The boxing drama will open at the Winter Garden Theatre with previews in February 2014.

Presented by Stage Entertainment USA and Sylvester Stallone, the musical will be directed by Alex Timbers.

“I couldn’t be more proud or more excited about this production and how my original story of Rocky Balboa has been brought to spectacular life on stage,” said Stallone.

Steven Hoggett (Once) and Kelly Devine (Rock of Ages) will serve as the choreographers of the musical. Hoggett will lead on fight choreography, while Devine will take charge of dance choreography.

The Rocky musical celebrated its world premiere last fall in Hamburg, Germany, opening to rave reviews.

An official opening is slated for March, with an exact premiere date yet to be announced.
