Lee McCulloch breaks silence on Rangers financial crisis
Lee McCulloch has opened up about the secret meetings and drama happening behind the gates of Ibrox as the club plunged into financial crisis.
The Rangers captain tells all in an explosive new book – Simp-Lee the Best – which is being exclusively serialised in the Sunday Mail and Daily Record.
In the book, McCulloch breaks his silence on the storm that all but ruined the Glasgow club and what he thinks must happen in the future to win stability off the pitch and success on it.
Lee spoke to the Record after another week of crisis at Ibrox when chief executive Charles Green suddenly stood down.
Lee, 34, who bought £25,000 worth of shares in Rangers in December, said: “In order to move on from where we stand just now, we need clarity and honesty.
“Suspicion is hanging over the club on so many different levels and that has to be removed.
“We need to be given a clean bill of health so we can all move on and get this great club back to its rightful place.
“The manager, his backroom staff, the players and every other employee deserve that.
“But, most of all, our loyal supporters should not have to go through any more hurt than they already have. Our supporters put their hard-earned cash into Rangers every year and we are going to need them more than ever in the new season.
“But they will want to know exactly what they are buying into this time and they deserve information.
“For the best part of two years, this great club has been battered from pillar to post from people within the club as well as outside influences and it has to stop.
“Everyone involved with Rangers Football Club has been through more than enough –
boss Ally McCoist in particular.
“He has had to work without stability for far too long and that must have been a very stressful time for him.
“He truly deserves a break.
“But as long as he remains at the club and Walter Smith is involved at boardroom level, there will be hope for everyone with Rangers’ best interests at heart and we can continue to move in the right direction.”
