The Following shoots two endings for first season finale

US cult show The Following has had audiences glued to the edge of their seat for weeks and the season finale isn’t going to disappoint, with producers revealing they shot two endings.

James Purefoy – who plays serial killer Joe Carroll – told TV Guide that he has no idea which ending ‘The Final Chapter’ will use.

“I don’t know exactly how the show ends,” admitted James.

“One of the great pleasures and one of the great frustrations working on the show has been the fact that you never quite know where you’re going to go with this character – especially when you’re playing somebody as completely mad as Joe Carroll.”

Series creator and showrunner Kevin Williamson added that the finale will “conclude the story” of Joe’s feud with Ryan Hardy.

“It’s called ‘The Final Chapter’ for a reason,” he affirmed. “We bring a close to the story, and some people live and some people die.”

The Following airs on Fox in the US and on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
