Wimbledon 2013: Andy Murray beats Lu Yen-hsun in straight-sets to reach round three
Andy Murray secured his place in the third round of Wimbledon after overcoming unseeded Lu Yen-hsun 6-3 6-3 7-5 on Court One on Wednesday.
The world No 2 produced a professional display against his Chinese Taipei counterpart and his reward is a third round date with Spanish 32nd seed Tommy Robredo.
Murray lost to Lu in the first round of the Beijing Olympics back in 2008 and was forced to fend off three early break points before claiming the solitary break of the opening set in the sixth game.
An ace handed the Scot first blood and he cranked his level up a notch in the second set, threatening to break each of Lu’s service games, before doing so at the third time of asking in the ninth game courtesy of a double fault.
The second seed forced a break point in the sixth game of the third set, and showed just how much he wanted every point by whacking his foot in frustration when Lu’s shot trickled off the top of the net.
The world number 75, who beat Andy Roddick here to reach the quarter-finals three years ago, eventually came through a very long game, and threatened to force a tie-break with the score at 5-5 in the third.
Murray had other ideas, though, and produced arguably his best game of the match to break and book his place in the last 32.
