Celtic’s hopes of signing Alfred Finnbogason in doubt
Celtic’s hopes of signing Alfred Finnbogason are fading after a bidding war started last night for the Augsburg player.
According to Record Sport, the Bundesliga outfit had a £4.5million bid for the Icelandic ace rejected by Heerenveen chiefs who will not entertain any offer under £5m.
Lazio are also now in the race for Finnbogason and the price for the 24-year-old is set to spiral with the transfer window closing in 18 days.
Celtic chief scout John Park watched the attacker bag his third goal in two games last week and there is interest.
Finnbogason is reportedly not pushing for a move and would happily stay with the cash-strapped Dutch side who also knocked back an offer from Werder Bremen.
Sources in Holland last night claimed Celtic also made an offer but that was not confirmed by the club.
Heerenveen director Gaston Sporre said: “It’s true proposals have come but the amounts are not interesting enough.
“We’d prefer to keep him. He’s important to us and he won’t just go anywhere.”
