Filth star James McAvoy Ensures Son gets a Scots accent

McAvoy lives in a flat in north London – but brought his family back to his home city last year while filming Filth, he has revealed though that he’s trying to spend more time north of the Border so his son gets a Scots accent.

The 34-year-old from Glasgow is married to his former Shameless co-star Anne-Marie Duff.

They live with son Brendan, three, in a flat in north London – but James brought the family back to his home city last year while filming Filth, which was premiered in Edinburgh on Monday night and Glasgow last night.

During a rare interview with 102.5 Clyde 1 breakfast show host George Bowie, he said: “I’d been away from Glasgow for a long time.

“To be honest, while I was away and whenever I’d return to visit, I felt that the Glasgow I knew had moved on and didn’t really feel like the city I grew up in.

“What was brilliant was that I got to spend six weeks living in Glasgow while making the film and I then realised that wasn’t true.

“It still felt amazing and felt like my city and for the first time in 10 years I thought that I really want to live here again. I can’t do that because my work’s all down south and I’d spend all my time travelling, so I have found myself coming up the road a lot more – and trying to get my son a Scottish accent.”

James said Filth – the film of the Irvine Welsh novel – is “as good as, if not better than, Trainspotting”.
