DYRT sat down with Room 94 to discuss their album and touring with LAWSON

Currently on tour with LAWSON, Room 94 are quickly becoming the newest boyband on the music scene.

Brothers Kieran, Dean, and Sean, along with long time friend Kit have been busy recording their debut album, No Strings Attached, but took time out of their busy schedule to talk to DYRT!

For people who know nothing about you, how would you describe Room 94?

Dean: “We play music that is good time party style music. It’s about things we get up to and is really relatable! It’s got a pop rock vibe to it and quite synth driven! There’s 3 brothers (dean, Sean, Kieran) and a mate from school.”

Tell us a bit about how the band came together?

Kieran: “I started the band when I was at school with friends, then I asked Dean (my youngest brother) to learn drums! After that we got kit on bass and finally my oldest brother Sean on guitar! We have been touring and playing shows ourselves for years!”

Music business is tough to break into so what made/why did you guys decide to pursue this as a career?

Sean: “We’ve always just loved playing music and meeting new people and travelling and having fun! Obviously as the band has become bigger it’s now turning into a business, but it’s still the most fun exciting fast paced environment to be in.

It’s better than sitting at an office desk everyday!”

How has your experience of the business been so far?

Kieran: “2013 has been the biggest year so far for us as a band.  Lawson have helped us out and given us advice, and we took that on board and it’s helped us with our own shows!

We also started working with a management team which has helped us become more organised and opened more doors for us.”

You toured with LAWSON earlier this year and have been asked back, how does it feel to be back?

Sean: “It’s great! We became good mates with the Lawson guys on the first tour so this time round it felt like we were going back to school with all the dumb jokes etc.”

Dean: “The fans are awesome and really receptive towards us aswell which is great!

What can fans expect from the band this time that they didn’t see the last time?

Kieran: “We have just finished recording our debut album and so we are playing a couple of new songs on this tour, so they can expect some huge singalongs and jumping.”

LAWSON gigged for a while before making it big, have they offered you guys any advice?

Kit: “They took us out on tour as they see a bit of themselves in us. The whole playing shows constantly, so they just tell us to keep going etc. As well as touring with LAWSON, you’re supporting Union J later this year. You looking forward to it.”

Sean: “We are looking forward to it! It’s going to be insane, their fans seem really cool and we are excited to be playing to some huge crowds, plus it’ll be cool to meet the guys and party.”

Union J came from reality music show The X Factor. The show creates bands with an instant fan base and success  – do you ever wish you had gone down that path rather than building it up yourself?

Kieran: “We are proud of how far we have come as a band, there’s nothing wrong with the X Factor but it’s just something we wouldn’t do.

“It’s more gratifying to us knowing we have built a strong fanbase that is not going anywhere.

“It’s given us experience of playing live shows in all circumstances, rather than being thrown straight into the limelight with all that pressure.”

What do you think of shows like that? Any favs this year?

Sean: “We are friends with a few of the guys on there, Sam Callahan supported us on tour, hopefully he will go far.”

You have a DVD movie coming out in Novemeber – what’s can fans expect from it? Why do a dvd already?

Dean: “We wanted to put together footage fans haven’t seen yet, and give an insight into who we are as a band, not just live footage and backstage footage.”

Kit: “It’s all still being filmed at the moment because we have some exciting things coming up that we really want to put onto the DVD. So for the moment November will just be a European release in Poland for the fans there.”

Your album is out in spring next year and you’re doing your own tour..What can fans expect from album? How did you find the recording process? You write on it?

Kieran: “The album is called ‘No Strings Attached’ and it’s 10 solid tracks about partying, girls & drinking.

“It’s an honest album that people will be able to relate to and have a laugh listening to the lyrics.”

Sean: “ecording was great fun. We stayed in a lodge in the New Forest and spent two weeks smashing the tracks out.

“Kieran came up with some ideas, brought them to the band and we all added our input! We’re really excited for how it’s sounding.”

Dean: “We wrote the songs ourselves so we are proud of it too! Can’t wait to hear the reactions.”
