Robin Thicke speaks out on Paula Patton split
Robin Thicke has spoken about his separation from wife Paula Patton for the first time.
The Blurred Lines singer landed in Washington D.C and while making his way through the airport, he told a TMZ photographer bluntly that he wants his marriage back on track.
He said: “I’m just trying to get her back.”
Thicke and Patton announced in a joint statement this week that they are splitting after almost nine years of marriage.
Robin also went on to deny that his sexually-charged performance with Miley Cyrus at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards had a negative impact on his marriage.
The actress reportedly had a huge argument with the singer following the show, saying the raunchy routine – which featured the then-20-year-old twerking up against her spouse – was insulting to her, particularly as it took place in front of a huge TV audience.
According to TMZ, Paula was particularly “enraged” because Miley improvised the performance without warning – something her husband was only too happy to go along with.
Addressing the controversial performance during an episode of Watch What Happens Live in September, the mother-of-one insisted she “wasn’t surprised at all” and that she “didn’t get the big deal.”
“Honestly, they rehearsed for three days beforehand and I don’t know how not to dance with someone having their booty in your … all my friends do it like that! I don’t really know what the big deal is.
“I didn’t know if they thought Miley was going to sit down and play piano like Alicia Keys. Her song’s about taking Molly [ecstasy]!” she laughed.
However, behind the facade, the star was reportedly seething over the incident.
