Ashley Cole retires from international football after World Cup snub

Ashley Cole has announced his retirement from international football after being left out of Roy Hodgson’s preliminary 23-man England World Cup squad.

The Chelsea left-back, who appeared to bid an emotional farewell to Blues fans after the 2-1 win in Cardiff, was yesterday told he will not be part of the travelling party to Brazil.

The Daily Telegraph claims the 33-year-old also rejected the opportunity to go on the standby list, and instead opted to retire from international football.

“I got the call from Roy and agree England team should be about the young players. I think it best I retire from England team now,” tweeted Cole.
