Stars call for Radio 1’s Big Weekend to be annual event
Radio 1’s Big Weekend took place in Glasgow over the weekend and it proved to be a roaring success thanks to performances from the likes of Katy Perry, Calvin Harris, Paolo Nutini and Pharrell Williams.
Nutini enjoyed the event so much he has called for Glasgow to have an annual event.
“It’s been great! It makes sense to maybe introduce something located a bit more in Glasgow city centre,” said the Scot.
Fellow Scot, Sam McTrusty from band Twin Atlantic, echoed the buzz for the event in Glasgow.
“The line-up is so massive it must be the best one Radio 1 have had.”
“It’s really cool for me, being from here, to have all the eyes of the world on the city.
“The second stage has the Glastonbury headliners on it! It’s crazy, unbelievable.
“It’s exciting for me as a guy from Glasgow. If I wasn’t in a band I’d be dying to get a ticket for that show.”
Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills agreed – but said there would be major cash considerations.
“It would be great if the Big Weekend could happen every year here – if you guys could supply the budget.
“It’s such a big thing and has been brilliant here.
“Glasgow has been my favourite Big Weekend we’ve had so far.
“There is just something about it.”
