World Cup: Luis Suarez responding well to treatment on knee injury

Luis Suarez is recovering well from knee surgery ahead of Uruguay’s World Cup campaign, according to his manager.

The Liverpool striker was been filmed sprinting, twisting and working with the ball on Tuesday – apparently without any impediment – less than four weeks after an operation on cartilage in his knee.

No deadline has been set for his return, but Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez sounded an upbeat note at his latest press conference ahead of Saturday’s Group D opener against Costa Rica.

“He’s responding very well and his spirits couldn’t be better,” Tabarez said. “He’s working full out on his physical fitness.

“As we have no set deadlines, I don’t know if we’ll have him for the first match, for the second, for the third. If it were up to me, Suarez would play tomorrow.”

England are Uruguay’s second opponents next Thursday, and Suarez had earlier posted a video on his Twitter page thanking fans for their support.

He said: “Hello to everyone, I wanted to tell you that my knee is getting better. I feel very good, I have to go day by day, but everything is on the right way.

“I wanted to thank you all for the support I received during this week and now my mind is focused on the World Cup.”
