Matthew McConaughey wins best actor at the Critics’ Choice TV awards

Matthew McConaughey won best actor for his role in True Detective at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards last night.

Held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, McConaughey added his Critic’s Choice to his already impressive display of an Oscar, Golden Globe and Independent Spirit award.

In his speech, the Dallas Buyers Club actor paid tribute to the great work being done on the small screen.

He said: “Television is raising the bar for character-driven drama.”

As Matthew picked up his award, news broke that he probably won’t be returning to his role of strip club owner Dallas in Magic Mike 2.

Gabriel Iglesias, who co-starred in Magic Mike as the strip club’s DJ and drug dealer, broke the news in an interview with Dish Nation posted on Us Weekly’s website.

Check those pecs: Matthew muscled up for Magic Mike but he's unlikely to be in the sequel, according to cast mate Gabriel Iglesias

“Word has it Matthew is probably not going to be involved in this one,” he said.

“He’s worth a lot of money – that whole Oscar thing, the nerve right,” he joked, referring to Matthew’s Academy Award for Dallas Buyers Club.
