Scotland set new gold medal record at Commonwealth Games
Scotland have set a new national record for Commonwealth Games gold medals following lawn bowls success for Alex Marshall and Paul Foster.
That win marked 12 gold medals for the Scots, surpassing the tally from Melbourne in 2006.
The hosts are just one medal away from matching their best haul of 33.
Mike Whittingham, director of high performance at the sportscotland institute of sport, said he was “delighted” with the 12th gold.
“Alex and Paul have dominated world bowls over the last few years and to add another Commonwealth title to their collection, especially one as historic as this, is extremely fitting,” he added.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing the rest of the Team Scotland athletes competing, and I’m sure they will be going all out to try to add to the already impressive medal tally.”
Defending champion Jen McIntosh had to settle for bronze in the 50m rifle prone, having led at the halfway stage.
Libby Clegg and Ross Murdoch provide more medal hopes for the home nation on Monday.
Clegg is a strong favourite for the Para-sport 100m T12 title after qualifying for the final with the fastest time in the world this year of 12.23 seconds.
Murdoch, who already has a gold and bronze to his name, is one of three Scots in the 50m breaststroke final.
Hannah Miley, who defended her 400m individual medley title, goes in the 800m freestyle final and the 200m butterfly final.
