Craig Charles has quit I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! after being told his brother has died.
Craig was told that his brother, Dean, died once he woke up on Thursday morning in Australia, which was Wednesday evening UK time.
“Craig decided to leave the IAC camp earlier today [Thursday] and will be heading back to his family the UK. We send our sincere condolences to Craig and his family,” said an ITV spokesperson.
Former policeman and father-of-two Dean – who had owned a bar in Spain named after his brother’s Red Dwarf character Lister – is believed to have died of a heart attack on Tuesday evening.
His ex-wife Karen told The Sun: “It’s a shock. He was always fit and healthy. Craig will have to leave the jungle after this.”
A show source also told The Mirror earlier in the day: “We took the decision not to shock Craig and wake him in middle of the night and will inform him of the sad news when he wakes up.
“He will be allowed to do exactly what he wishes.”
The paper adds that the death of his older brother was the reason Craig ‘s number was not included in the phonelines for the latest Bushtucker Trial, The Terror Tavern.
