Eddie Redmayne praises Neighbours stars after Oscars win
Eddie Redmayne has praised Neighbours stars Alan Fletcher and Jackie Woodburne following his Oscars win.
Redmayne won the Best Actor Academy Award for his role as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, but has insisted that he learnt his skills from watching the Neighbours stars play Susan and Karl in the Australian soap.
“I think they’re amazing. I’m a huge fan of them from old. I’ve learnt a lot from them from watching them daily,” he told News.com.au.
Redmayne has previously praised the stars of the Australian soap, in a recent interview with Elle magazine.
“They are the greatest unsung acting duo in history. Watch, and you’ll find that everything they do is on another level of genius. I really do think so,” he told the magazine.
“[If I met them] that would be complete stage fright. I’ve met quite a few extraordinary actors, but either Susan or Karl? Well, I don’t think I’d be able to talk.”
Responding to Redmayne’s praise, Fletcher said: “To receive such generous praise from an actor of Eddie Redmayne’s startling ability and status has been thrilling for both of us.
“It never ceases to excite me to hear examples of the influence Neighbours has had beyond Australia. And congratulations Eddie for the recognition of your wonderful performance in The Theory of Everything.”
