Kathy Griffin quits Fashion Police
Kathy Griffin has quit E!’s Fashion Police after only seven episodes.
The comedienne – known for her brash commentaries and outspoken personality – announced her departure via a lengthy letter posted on Twitter.
“After seven episodes of Fashion Police, I discovered that my style does not fit with the creative direction of the show and now it’s time to move on,” Kathy wrote.
Kathy’s exit comes after her co-host Kelly Osbourne left the celebrity fashion show after controversy stemming from Giuliana Rancic’s comments about Zendaya’s hair during The Oscars on February 22.
Rancic was widely condemned for quipping on Fashion Police that Zendaya’s dreadlocks on the Oscars red carpet smelled of “weed” and “patchouli oil”.
Zendaya publicly called the joke insensitive, leading to Rancic issuing an on-air apology on E! for the offensive remarks.
Rancic’s Fashion Police co-star Griffin has since insisted that the joke should never have made the air.
Griffin joined the show as replacement for the late Joan Rivers, who died last September from outpatient surgery complications.
Since Kathy’s announcement, Kelly Osbourne has also taken to Twitter to praise her former co-host.
The show will continue with Giuliana and Brad Goeski, the network said in a statement published by JustJared.
“We can confirm that Kathy Griffin is leaving E!’s Fashion Police,” read the statement.
“We wish her all the best and are grateful for her time on the show, as well as the many laughs that she gave us all. Fashion Police will return, as scheduled, on Monday, March 30, at 9 p.m. with our talented co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski, and executive producer Melissa Rivers.”
