Sue Perkins quits Twitter over Top Gear threats

Sue Perkins has been forced to temporarily quit Twitter after receiving threats over Top Gear.

The Great British Bake Off co-host was tipped to replace Jeremy Clarkson who was sacked from the show following an altercation with a producer.

Sue was quick to quash the rumours, denying that she will take over from Jeremy Clarkson for the BBC Two’s next series, however she has continued to receive aggressive and threatening messages on social media.

“Guys, post the utterly fabricated story about me & Top Gear, my timeline has been full of blokes wishing me dead,” Perkins tweeted.

“This morning, someone suggested they’d like to see me burn to death.

“All of which goes to say that I am off Twitter for a bit. Love and peace x”

Chris Evans has also denied reports that he will become the next lead host on more than one occasion.

It has yet to be confirmed whether James May or Richard Hammond will remain on the show, and their contracts are believed to have expired at the end of March.
