George Groves to fight Badou Jack in Las Vegas

George Groves’ third world title chance will take place in Las Vegas but not on a Floyd Mayweather undercard, according to WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman.

The Hammersmith boxer, who was recently involved in a boating accident with the Royal Marines, will face current super-middleweight champion Badou Jack.

Floyd Mayweather Jr promotes the WBC title holder and there was a chance that Groves, who lost both world title challenges to Carl Froch, would be boxing on the undercard in his massive September show.

But Sulaiman says he is expecting the initial date of Saturday August 22 to be confirmed having spoken to the promoters.

“From what I know from the promoter of Badou Jack, which is Mayweather Promotions, it’s August 22nd in Las Vegas,” he told World Boxing News.

“I believe they have exchanged contracts and are into the visas, so I do not think that is about to change right now.”

Groves (21-2-KO16) was always happy to travel to the United States to take on Swedish-born Jack (19-1-1-KO12).

And he knows that if he wins the WBC title it could set up another huge unification rematch, this time against bitter foe James DeGale.

DeGale won the IBF version of the title on American soil in May, beating Andre Dirrell – brother of Anthony Dirrell, who lost the WBC belt to Jack in April.
