Celtic target Mikael Lustig
MIKAEL LUSTIG last night expressed his excitement at a potential switch to Celtic – and has already discussed the move with Swedish mate Daniel Majstorovic.
The Rosenborg defender has rocketed to the top of Neil Lennon’s shopping list with his contract due to expire with the Norwegians next month.
Lustig is available on a free transfer and, although Spaniards Espanyol and English outfit Fulham are on the case, Celtic are looking at a quick-fire offer to win the race.
The 24-year-old is desperate to improve his development and believes that moving to a title-chasing outfit such as the Parkhead club would suit his style far better than roughing it in the lower reaches of La Liga or the Premiership.
Lennon watched the player during Sweden’s recent international double-header against Denmark and England and Lustig said: “I’d fit in at a club like Celtic.
“I have not had any contact with them personally but my agent has.
“Celtic is pretty much the same as Rosenborg when it comes to how they play.
“My dream is to go to a club in a bigger league and play against the best players.
“But my style of playing is best suited to a team in the top of the league who plays an attacking style.
“Celtic seems exciting. It is not the best league but it sounds interesting.”
Lennon’s assistant Johan Mjallby has been aware of the right-back, who can also operate at centre-back, for some time as he has broken into the Sweden squad.
And, although Lustig claims he has not spoken with the Celtic No.2 about the transfer, he confessed he did confide in Majstorovic during the international gathering.
Lustig said: “I have not spoken with Johan but I talked with Daniel to check things out.”
