Faldo says Poulter must focus to be at his best
Sir Nick Faldo has advised Ian Poulter to focus purely on his golf if he wants to rediscover his best form.
Faldo believes Poulter has too many distractions – including his regular Twitter updates.
Poulter has had a poor start to the 2012 season, managing just a joint-45th place finish at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, before being knocked out of the World Match Play in the first round.
The Ryder Cup star heads to the Honda Classic in Florida this week hoping to kick-start his season, and Faldo says he should be spending less time on his mobile phone and more on the range.
Six-time major winner Faldo told the Daily Mail: “Poults has just got too much going on, in my view. He’s got the house in Orlando, which has taken years to build and he must have lost a fortune on given the way the market has gone.
“He and his wife have just had their fourth child. He’s got the worry of keeping his clothing company afloat and then there’s the fact he’s always tweeting like crazy.
“I watched him on the practice ground at the Accenture last week and there he was, bouncing away and tweeting furiously instead of putting in some quality time on his game.
“I’m hoping he will be shocked by how he has started the season.”
Poulter, however, was quick to try and kill the story via a tweet on Tuesday afternoon.
He told his 1.2 million followers: “Don’t panic complete false alarm I spoke to Faldo last night he was totally miss quoted, as per normal the papers can write what they like.”
