Jessie J admits she makes ‘The Voice’ contestants cry
Jessie J has admitted to reducing her acts to tears on The Voice UK.
The ‘Price Tag’ singer’s co-star Tom Jones claimed that Jessie was the toughest of all the coaches on the new Saturday night music reality series.
“There is no evil judges on this show, but Jessie definitely puts the acts through their paces,” said the Welsh star.
The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue, who is also one of the show’s mentors, added: “It’s about the tough love. If we bring someone to tears it’s for the right reasons. We break these guys down and then build them back up again.”
Jessie J claimed that her approach to the show was to create a “Boot Camp-type experience” and confessed that the journey had been an emotional one for all her acts.
“I have made people cry. But crying is good. Crying is good. Not in a sad way, not in a ‘cry now’ way. It just shows to them that it isn’t a walk in the park now,” said the singer.
“25,000 people auditioned for this show and now you’re in the final 40, you have to work hard.
“People have come from small towns where their friends and families have always told them how good they are, but now they’re standing in front of me, someone who is all about breathing, technique and vocals. They can be a bit overwhelmed and end up crying, but the next day they come back and say thanks for the tough love.”
The Voice UK launches on Saturday, March 24 on BBC One.
