Mark Owen signs up for Soccer Aid 2012
Robbie Williams has confirmed his Take That pal Mark Owen is the latest celebrity team-mate to join charity event Soccer Aid 2012.
Robbie announced the news on Tuesday evening (April 10) in a post on his official website.
“Amazing news…. The best football player that TT produced has agreed to play for England at Soccer Aid,” Williams wrote.
“Mr Mark Owen shall be gracing the Theatre of Dreams. It just gets better and better. Nice one Marko, see you on the training pitch in May. Love Robbie.”
Owen joins celebrities including Olly Murs, Michael Sheen, Gordon Ramsay, Patrick Kielty,Jamie Theakston, JLS bandmates Marvin Humes and Aston Merrygold, John Bishop, Will Ferrell and Gerard Butler at Soccer Aid.
Footballers Teddy Sheringham and Edwin van der Sar have also signed up for the event, which benefits UNICEF.
The 2010 Soccer Aid fixture ended with a victory for Sheen’s Rest of the World team over Williams’s England side, following a penalty shoot-out which concluded with Hunger Games actor Woody Harrelson scoring the winner.
This year’s Soccer Aid game takes place on Sunday, May 27, with ITV1’s live television coverage presented by Dermot O’Leary.
