Andy Murray delayed from recieving OBE by drug test
Andy Murray was delayed on his way to receiving an OBE at Buckingham Palace on Thursday after being asked to take an out-of-competition drug test.
The Scottish Wimbledon champ got an unexpected knock on the door as he was preparing for his royal engagement.
“In the middle of a drug test hahaha I’m goin to be late!!” tweeted Murray.
Olympic champion Murray was all smiles when he did arrive at Buckingham Palace to be presented with an OBE.
The tennis star was receiving the honour from the Duke of Cambridge, who was hosting his first investiture ceremony.
Murray arrived at the palace with girlfriend Kim Sears and his parents Willie and Judy in a chauffeur-driven people carrier.
Murray was awarded the OBE in the New Year Honours, before his historic triumph at Wimbledon, after winning the US Open and men’s tennis final at London 2012.
The British No 1 is currently out of action after undergoing back surgery, but hopes to make a return to competitive tennis before next year’s Australian Open.
“I’m not going to come back until I’m 100 per cent fit so I’ll have to wait and see,” said Murray.
“I’ve been recovering well, I’ve been doing my rehab and I haven’t hit a tennis ball for four weeks.
“It’s probably going to be another four weeks or so before I can start getting on the court again, but I’ll just have to wait and see. “
