Argos launches own-brand tablet for under £100
Argos has launched its first own-brand tablet.
The high street retailer’s MyTablet device has a 7-inch display and runs on Google’s Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system.
Argos’s break into the budget tablet sector will put it head-to-head with Tesco’s recently-released Hudl device when it goes on sale from tomorrow (October 16).
At just £99.99 Argos is throwing in 19 pre-loaded games and apps, including BBC iPlayer, Angry Birds and an e-Book app, as well as its own Argos app to push sales.
Powered by a 1.6GHz dual core processor, MyTablet has an 8GB capacity and a Micro SD card support for an additional 32GBs.
The LCD glass screen is made up of 1024×600 pixels, housed in a metal case in a choice of pink or silver.
Two cameras are on board, with 2-megapixels on the back and 0.3-megapixels on the front.
The Wi-Fi enabled tablet also comes with built-in Bluetooth, HDMI and Micro USB output ports and a battery capable of lasting up to five hours.
Argos managing director John Walden said: “Millions of people bought a tablet last year but there’s still around 75% of the UK population who do not yet own one. We know that tablets will feature heavily on Christmas lists again this year.”
