BBL Cup: Newcastle Eagles move one step closer to final
Newcastle Eagles moved one step closer to the BBL Cup Final afterthe beat UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders 107-90 in the first-leg of their semi-final match-up.
Stellar performances by Damon Huffman and Charles Smith helped the holders shoot down a shocked Raiders team as Smith tortured the hosts in the same way he did in last year’s final.
There had been a continual downpour in the South-West leading up to the game, and once the action got underway at The Pavilions, there was a different kind of deluge for the Devon club to contend with as the Eagles shot the lights out from long-range with an eye-popping 17 successful three-pointers.
That will have delighted Eagles’ head-coach Fab Flournoy who didn’t need to step on the court and was able to rest the leg injury he sustained against Cheshire 48 hours earlier in preparation for making sure his team finished the job in the second leg at Sport Central on Friday.
