BBL: League break ties with Cheshire Jets with immediate effect
The BBL have withdrawn the Cheshire franchise from its operating company with immediate effect.
The decision follows an urgent review of the franchise following notification from the club that they were unable to fulfill their fixture this weekend.
The BBL is currently exploring a number of options to ensure the continuation of the franchise. It is anticipated there will be a further announcement in the coming days.
DERBY GAME
Mersey Tigers derby clash with Cheshire Jets has been thrown into serious doubt after basketball officials withdrew Cheshire’s franchise from the league.
The Jets, who were saved from going out of existence by owner Haydn Cook last month, asked the British Basketball League (BBL) yesterday if they could postpone Sunday’s fixture with the Tigers.
It is reported the Jets have run into financial problems but league officials declined their request to call off the Tigers match and have taken the franchise from the club.
No official decision has been announced on Sunday’s game.
