Calvin Harris makes chart history beating Michael Jackson’s record
Calvin Harris has made chart history breaking Michael Jackson’s UK chart record for the most top ten singles from one album.
The Scottish DJ and producer scored his eighth top ten hit from his LP 18 Months on Sunday’s chart, reaching number seven with his Ellie Goulding collaboration I Need Your Love.
Jackson held the record previously with seven top ten hits from his 1987 LP Bad.
An excited Harris took to Twitter last night to celebrate his success.
“8 top 10s from my album 18 Months now! So happy!!!” tweeted the 29-year-old.
His impressive chart run dates back to June 2011 when ‘Bounce’ featuring Kelis peaked at number two.
He achieved another second placed single with ‘Feel So Close’ before hitting number one with Rihanna on ‘We Found Love’.
His Ne-Yo collaboration ‘Let’s Go’ also placed at number two at the beginning of last year. He followed that up by working with Example on ‘We’ll Be Coming Back’, which also charted at number two in the UK.
He achieved another number one with Florence Welch on ‘Sweet Nothing’ before reaching number five earlier this year with Tinie Tempah track ‘Drinking From The Bottle’.
Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company’s Managing Director, commented: “Many artists only achieve a handful of hits in their entire careers, so for any act to secure three or four from one album is an excellent achievement.
“In turn, eight Top 10s from one album is not just impressive, it is absolutely remarkable. And, of course, record breaking. Congratulations to Calvin Harris, THE modern day hit-maker.”
18 Months has sold over 543,000 copies in the UK since it was released in October of last year. It topped the charts for two weeks before spending a total of ten weeks inside the top ten.
