Celtic confirm Alan Thompson exit from the club
SPL champions Celtic have confirmed that first-team coach Alan Thompson has left the club following a discussion with Neil Lennon.
Thompson’s lawyer revealed on Sunday that his client had seen his contract terminated with immediate effect.
The former Hoops midfielder has been part of the coaching set-up at Parkhead since being drafted into Lennon’s backroom team in June 2010.
He has, however, been informed that his services are no longer required.
The fact that the news was broken to him in a telephone conversation came as something of a surprise, but Celtic have revealed that Lennon was left with little choice after seeing Thompson refuse to meet him face-to-face.
“Celtic Football Club can confirm that Alan Thompson has left the club,” read a statement released on the club’s official website.
“We can also confirm that a meeting was set up between Alan Thompson and Neil Lennon on Sunday (June 3) in Newcastle.
“However, Alan refused to meet with Neil, hence the reason for the discussion being conducted by telephone.
“The matter is now in the hands of lawyers and, therefore, we are unable to go into any further details.”
