Champions League: Arsenal Wenger unhappy at Arsenal naivety against Dortmund
Arsene Wenger has accused his side of being “naive” as they suffered their first Champions League defeat of the season losing 2-1 to Borussia Dortmund.
Robert Lewandowski’s late volley gave last season’s beaten finalists a 2-1 victory, however Arsenal will stay top of Group F level on six points with Dortmund and Napoli.
“We put ourselves on the back foot with the first goal and were naive for the second,” said Wenger.
Gunners keeper Wojciech Szczesny had little to do in the match bar picking the ball out of the net,
“Look at how many saves our goalkeeper has had to make and we have conceded two goals,” said Wenger.
“We can only look at ourselves as not being mature enough in those situations. If you can’t win the game, don’t lose it.
“That’s what is most annoying because we put a lot of effort in.”
“We started hesitant. At the end of the day, we went 1-0 down and when you don’t start well it is difficult to get back into the game. But we did well and in the second half we were on top of it.
“We just forgot to be cautious. We were not cautious enough and we paid for it.”
