David Beckham spends £70,000 on replica of Steve McQueen’s Porsche
David Beckham has reportedly purchased a replica of the car once driven by his idol Steve McQueen.
The Paris Saint-Germain footballer is said to have spent £70,000 on the classic 1969 slate-grey Porsche 911, from a dealer in Preston, reports The Mirror.
The vehicle, described as a Steve McQueen replica, was originally owned by the film icon and featured in the 1971 movie Le Mans.
It was recently sold for £832,800 at auction in Monterey, California.
Beckham has spoken about his love of the Hollywood legend, who died aged 50 in 1980, saying: “I’ve always looked at people such as Steve McQueen for influence.”
“His clothes, his sense of style, the way he looked in pictures, the way he was as a personality.”
In a separate interview, he said: “He looked amazing in everything he wore, even jeans and white T-shirt. He pulled it off.”
The footballer has always been a Porsche lover, owning a matt black 911 Turbo convertible for £100,000 in 2008, before spending £50,000 on having it customized. He later sold it in 2011.
