David Boreanaz reveals he considered quitting Bones
David Boreanaz has confirmed that he considered quitting Bones last year, admitting that he felt ready for “new challenges” at the time.
The actor – who plays Seeley Booth – referred to the drama’s eighth season as a “farewell tour” and told TVLine that he had weighed up his future when his old Bones contract expired at the end of the last season.
“My contract was up… so I had opportunities to go into some new areas,” he admitted. “But the producers and I came together and found a happy medium. We sat and talked hard about the character development, and I’m excited.”
The 43-year-old explained that the recently announced ninth season of Bones will focus on Booth’s “health problems”.
“We’ve never really focused on the hardcore truth of what Booth goes through on an everyday basis,” he suggested. “His health problems may come to fruition [and] there might be a traumatic experience that he’s got to deal with.”
Last year, Boreanaz told reporters there was a “message” behind the original tweets which sparked speculation about his future with the show.
“Personal and business decisions are always made behind closed doors, and it should remain that way,” he asserted. “But for me to go out and tweet to certain people is a fun thing to do. There’s always a message in it somewhere!”
Bones airs on Fox on Mondays in the US and on Wednesdays on Sky Living in the UK
