Elton John cancels Hyde Park gig due to illness
Elton John has been forced to postpone a number of summer shows, including a gig at Hyde Park, due to illness.
The singer has regrettably had to pull out of upcoming appearances after being diagnosed with appendicitis, according to his official website.
His headline London show on Friday (July 12) as part of this year’s Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park is one of the dates affected.
Other shows in Italy and Germany have also been postponed.
A spokesperson for the star explained that he has undergone a series of exploratory scans after falling ill. He has developed an appendix abscess that will require surgery.
John is currently being treated with an intensive course of antibiotics in advance of surgery.
The spokesperson added: “Elton is incredibly disappointed to postpone these tour dates.
“To know that he made such super-human efforts and continued to perform to thousands through his illness only confirms his dedication to his European fans.
“He is eager to be back on top form and return to play the remaining shows starting in early September 2013.”
