Emeli Sandé to launch own record label
Emeli Sandé has revealed plans to launch her own record label.
The Scottish singer has announced that she wants to help aspiring artists get into the industry after battling to get noticed as a performer in her own right.
Speaking telling The Daily Record: “I think I’m going to start a label – that’s the business plan. That’s what’s happening.”
Her latest single – Clown – tells the story of how major labels saw her as a songwriter rather than a performer during her earlier career, and now Emeli wants to help other artists in a similar position.
“It’s about how I felt when I was trying to get signed, when I was going for all these meetings and people were looking at me like, “What do we do with you?”
“I built a reputation as a songwriter before my own hits.
“People were coming to me for songs – I wanted to keep songs like ‘Clown’ and ‘Mountains’ to sing myself, but the record labels saw me as a songwriter. It was hard to get people to believe in me.”
Emeli will release her new live album and DVD Live at The Royal Albert Hall on February 18.
