Up Close: Blake Shelton

Describing himself as a ‘homebody’ Blake Shelton says he likes nothing more than chilling in-front of the TV, playing the PS3 – oh and if he’s got time – to shop till he drops for shoes.

“I love Glasgow city centre,” says Blake “There are lots of places to shop, especially for shoes, which I could probably do everyday.”

Although the shops have helped him settle in, Blake says it’s been a pretty smooth transition and that the team have bonded quickly.

“I’ve settled in great,” says Blake “Everyone gets along and we’ve come together well as a team.”

“Also, I’ve played with Sterling in the past, when we were both at Sheffield, so that has helped make the transition easier.”

The 25-year-old Texan has dedicated the past twenty years to his dream, playing ball before he had even begun school.

“My dad started me playing as soon as I could throw a ball and I’ve been addicted ever since.”
“I played in high school and continued through to college then made my professional debut at Sheffield, where I spent two-years before moving to Germany last year.”

Blake believes hard work is the key to success and that’s what he plans to do at the Rocks.
“I believe that we have done pretty good so far this season, but there is still a lot of work to be done,” says Blake “We have come together fast and to me that says a lot about our team and what we can accomplish, but we have to continue to work hard everyday in practice to get better and accomplish our goal.

That work ethic is something Blake admires in two of his favourite NBA players.
The first was ‘Pistol’ Pete Maravich, who played in the 70’s and to this date, holds the NCAA scoring record for averaging 44 points per game.

“He is probably best known for his flashy ball handling and passing skills, which is actually what initially attracted me to his game.”

The second is Boston Celtics, Ray Allen, who Blake believes is one of the greatest shooters to ever play the game.
“He’s fantastic to watch and is a remarkable player – I’d love to play like he does.”

Blake plans to use some of his hero’s ethics as he looks forward to the remainder of the season.
“I’m ready to work hard and with the help of the team, bring home a title to the fans.
“I appreciate all the support the welcome they have given to me.

“I love their enthusiasm and look forward to seeing everyone at every home and some away games this season.”
