Up Close: Chi Lewis Parry

Chi Lewis Parry says he feels right at home in Glasgow, even though he’s only been here a short time.

“I never imagined myself residing in Glasgow prior to signing with the Rocks in the summer, but now that I’m here I feel right at home.
“Glasgow is great! There is so much history here in Scotland and I love being surrounded by it,” says Chi.

And although he loves Glasgow life, he admits the best present he got this year was going home to his mother for Christmas.

“I travelled home to London after the Cheshire game and had a real nice time relaxing with family and friends, oh and don’t forget my cats,” he laughs.
“Being at home, warm, happy, fed and spending some ‘sitting on my lap’ time with my cats was definitely my best present this year – I loved it.”

A late starter compared to some, Chi was about 11-years-old when he first picked up a basket ball and hasn’t stopped since.

“When I was aged 11, I literally played ball everywhere and anywhere I could.
I fell in love with the bouncing orange object and began watching basketball on ITV.

“Then and even still to this day, I followed the Houston Rockets, watching every move that Hakeem the dream, Clyde Drexler and Kenny Smith made.
“Those are the guys that make me play with the mentality I do now. They were never show offs or primadonnas, they just did whatever they had to do to get the job done, nothing more.”

When not on the court, Chi admits he’s a self proclaimed Xbox addict.
“Whenever I have spare moment I’ll jump on the couch for some ‘opposable thumb’ action,” laughs Chi.
“I have a very competitive nature which means I can’t stand losing - this also applies to the Xbox – I’ll play constantly till I win.”

It’s been a great season so far for the Rocks and Chi is confident they can keep it up till the end.

“Everyone is willing to fight for one another and that’s what will propel us to big things this season.
“I feel that despite us all being new to each other, we have unified quickly and effectively, and as long as we keep the fire going, the wins will continue to rack up.”

Chi says it’s like a family at the Rocks and that includes the fans, whom he had a special New Year’s message for.

“We see and recognise each and every one of you.
“We are out here every week going to war not just for us but for you also, so bring the noise and let’s have a great 2009 winning season.
