Up Close: Chino

Georgina Lennon sits down with Rocks player Chino...

Chino, as he’s been dubbed by fans and friends alike, looks to neighbouring Virgin Island player, Tim Duncan for inspiration and credits his own humility and attitude to him.

He said: “Tim is one of many players I admire, but his calmness and humble character toward both basketball and life is what I admire about him.”

“I think he is a better player than most give him credit for.
“He’s one of those players who gives it their all and just let’s his game speak for itself.”

That’s something 27-year-old; Randy ‘Chino’ George plans on doing himself this season.

“I am totally committed to working hard this season,” says Randy
“My plan is to continue improving my game and to be able contribute to the team in whatever way they require me to.”

One thing that’s stuck with Randy from his days at Sauk Valley Community College, Illinois, is the importance of TEAM.

Being that he is relatively new to the professional game, Randy is thankful for his place and never underestimates the importance of his fellow team mates.

"Big Will, Coach Davis and Rob all bring veteran leadership to the squad, and are there for us if we have a problem.

“I really think it's important for us younger guys to be able to look up to and learn from them because they've been there and done that, so have lots of valuable experience in basketball and in life that we could learn from.”

He added: “My Coach in junior college coach once told me that the meaning of ‘TEAM’ meant ‘Together Each Achieves More’

“This has always stuck with me and so far its proven true, which is why I am so confident in this team. Togetherness is certainly one of the things the Rocks have.”

Although it seems there hasn’t been much time for relaxation this season, Randy admits he has taken some time out to see what Glasgow has to offer.

I am really enjoying living in Glasgow so far – It’s a beautiful city and has loads of things to do.

“I really enjoy going to the different malls to shop and to the different restaurants to eat and just relax.”

“Since being here, I have also been to the Kelvingrove Museum and have seen and learnt a lot of different things while there. “

Randy has also been overwhelmed by the Scottish people and how welcoming they have been to him, and that includes the Rocks fans.
He said: “I really appreciate all the support the fans have given.
“They truly are the driving force behind our success and I want to assure them that we’re going to keep striving for excellence just as we know they’re going to keep cheering us on in the stands.

“We sincerely appreciate their support from the heart, for there are no fans quite like the Rocks fans, anywhere in the BBL.”
