Up Close: Scott Russell

Returning Rock and joker of the team, Scott Russell says the highlight of his season came on April fools day.
“I shrink wrapped the Coach’s car the other day as an April fool – it was pretty funny. Definitely that was one of my most memorable moments this season,” laughed Scott.

It’s been a tough season for the team and although Scott hasn’t always been part of the game process he says it hasn’t dismayed his passion for the game and still believes the Rocks have a chance at finals.
“I’ve been getting on and off time this season which can be frustrating but I guess it just motivates me to work harder and take my chance when I get it,” says Scott.

“The team has had an up and down season and Blake getting injured didn’t help, but one player doesn’t make a team, so we just need to work hard and we will hit form at the right time again and make it to playoffs.”
Before coming to the Rocks, Scott played for St Mirran for five years and Falkirk Fury for two years, and he is also part of Scotland’s National team.

“Playing for my country has been one of the proudest moments I’ve had in my career, so far.
“And I got to go to the Commonwealth Games in Australia which was really exciting.”

As for the future, Scott would like to see himself in the police force and settled with a family in the next few years.
“I love basketball and would still like to be involved in some way in the future but as a career I’m trying to get into the police force at the moment.”

Scott describes himself as a simple guy and likes to do normal things when not playing ball.
“I enjoy watching movies and playing playstation with guys – I’m a laid back kinda guy who likes the simple things in life.”

Scott is relatively new to the professional game, with this only his second year at the Rocks, but he doesn’t take it for granted and is appreciative of his place and the fans, saying, “Thanks for all your support of myself and the team and hopefully see you all again next year.”
