Georgina Lennon :: Rocks V Newcastle 10 Oct Post Match...

SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks player/coach Sterling Davis says there are a lot of positives to be taken from his team’s defeat on Wednesday.

“There are a lot of positive and negative feelings about the game on Wednesday night,” said the Coach.
“The positives were we battled the entire game, through the ups and downs of the game. “We always kept our heads and bounced back from whatever they through at us.”

He added: “We were unfortunate not to come out of that game with a win. “We worked so hard during the week in preparation for the game and worked hard within the game itself and to not be able to pull it out was tough.”

Davis admits it was a fight till the end and that as a team the Rocks are a force to be reckoned with.
”It was a fight till the end and it’s always that way playing against Newcastle.

“I thought Newcastle played well and came up with some big shots at crucial points in the game.”
He added: “I wasn’t surprised at all that we were able to hold them.

“We are a good team and when we play together as we did last night we can compete with anyone in the league.”
Sterling says momentum was great going into the first overtime thanks to a basket by Maurice Hampton.

“When we went into the first overtime the momentum was leaning in our direction. Maurice came up with a big shot for us in the end so we were on a high and it was a dagger for them because I’m sure they could taste victory before he hit it.

“On the other hand we were in that same situation going into the second over time because at that point we were up three with 6 seconds to go and we could taste it too.

“I think it took a lot out of the guys including myself when Hyatt hit that shot.”
In looking ahead, Davis says the team will have to step-up and pull themselves together as they have a weekend of games ahead.

“I’m sure guys will still be thinking about the game last night and what we could have done different to get the win but they also understand that we have to move on. We have 3 more games in seven days so no time for sulking.
“The opponents we have coming up will also be tough teams to handle just as everyone else is in the league.
“There are no easy wins and any team can be beat on any given night.”
