Georgina Lennon :: STV Rocks Intro...
SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks player/coach Sterling Davis promises if you come to just one game you’ll be back for more.
Based at Braehead Arena in Glasgow, The Scottish Rocks are Scotland’s only professional basketball team and are well on the way to becoming one of the best teams in the British Basketball League (BBL).
Established in 1998, the team was initially started as the Edinburgh Rocks, then in 2002, owner Ian Reid decided to head up the M8 and bring his team to Glasgow where they became the Scottish Rocks.
They were BBL Cup winners in 2002 and have been runner up in the Finals play-off weekend the past two years but Davis believes this is the year for the Rocks to shine and take it all the way, bringing that coveted trophy back to Scotland.
“We’ve been so close to winning the past two seasons and this year we’re hungrier than ever – we’re definitely a force to be reckoned with.
“We’ve brought back the core of our team from last season so the fact that we already have that bond and know how each other plays should help strengthen us as a team,” said Davis.
“Basketball in Scotland is not very well known but I can guarantee that if you give it a chance you’ll be hooked.”
“Game day isn’t just about what’s happening on the court.
“We have our cheerleaders (the Rockettes), competitions, face painting, and game day coaching, where the kids get to play on our court and meet the team - it’s a real day out for all the family.”
Go on give it a try and ROCK ON!!
