Gravity and 12 Years A Slave tie for Producers Guild Award

Gravity and 12 Years A Slave tied for the topĀ film prize on Sunday as both won the producer’s award for outstanding picture at last night’sĀ Producers Guild Awards.

This is the first tie in the 25-year history of the awards show threw the race for Best Picture at the Academy Awards in March wide open.

Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt joined director Steve McQueen and producers Anthony Katagas and Jeremy Kleiner onstage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California to accept on behalf of 12 Years A Slave.

Film producer David Heyman joined producer-director Alfonso Cuaron to accept the Darryl F. Zanuck Award on behalf of the space drama Gravity starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.

The double win by 12 Years A Slave and Gravity slowed the momentum of director David O. Russell’s American Hustle that gained front-runner status after being named Best Picture at the Golden Globes Awards.

Gravity and 12 Years A Slave beat out Blue Jasmine, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers, Club, Her, Nebraska, Saving Mr. Banks and The Wolf Of Wall Street for the top Producers Guild Award.
