Home and Away wins big at Logie Awards

Home and Away scooped the top prize at yesterdays Logie Awards, taking home the prize for Most Popular Drama.

The long-running soap fought off competition from House Husbands, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Offspring and Winners & Losers to walk away with the accolade.

Upon accepting the award, the show’s star Ray Meagher said: “We really didn’t think we had a chance against the one-hour shows but we’ll take it.

“In Australia now, there aren’t many things being manufactured. We’re Australian-made and exported around the world and very proud of it.”

Home and Away celebrated a second victory when Bonnie Sveen – who stars as Ricky Sharpe in the Channel Seven soap – was named ‘Most Popular New Talent’, beating her fellow cast member Johnny Ruffo, who was also nominated.

The actress said in her acceptance speech: “Thank you to everyone who voted and everyone who watches the show and lets us live our dream.”

Meanwhile, Steve Peacocke missed out on the Gold Logie for ‘Most Popular Personality’ for the second year running, after it was awarded to The Block star Scott Cam.
